Not Japan Dept

Giant Puppet

Not taken in Japan…If you know where this picture is from, let us know!

Update:

A Philippine police mascot attempts to cheer a baby in a shopping mall in Makati’s financial district in Manila December 22, 2002. The Philippine police has enhanced security in shopping malls and other public places to counter the threats of terrorist attacks or bombings this holiday season. Selected police officers were tasked to wear mascot costumes as they patrol the shopping malls in the capital to make their presence less obtrusive and more friendly. REUTERS/Romeo Ranoco

From the looks of the people in the background…I want to say it’s Singapore. :?:

Google Nazi Said:

Clue #1 – It’s at a Mall

ahmad Said:

My guess is Malaysia

ghoti Said:

Singapore, Malaysia, possibly Jakarta. I’d vote for Malaysia.

I hope you are ready to provide answers!

I originally saw this as the subject of a Fark Photoshop contest entitled “Photoshop the Philippine police mascot striking fear in the mall” – the original contest can be seen here:

I did make an entry for the contest

The original Yahoo news link no longer works, but I will guess the Philippine police mascot assertion is correct

Is that the SM Mall in Cebu? I visited that place with high hopes once, and left it, more than a little disappointed, with a new polo shirt. Not even a leather one…

Curzon Said:

In order of likelihood: Singapore, Philipines, or Malaysia, me thinks.

Ronin Said:

Dont know where that is but that kid is going to have decades of psychology bills to pay when she gets older.

R. Numbskull Said:

That’s nuts…can you depend on a person wearing such a bulky, hot, goofy looking costume?

KokuRyu Said:

Most terrorists are babies, so the costume is actually quite an effective deterrent.

R. Numbskull Said:

….

Toni Said:

I’d have the same look on my face if that thing was trying to talk to me.

Fei Said:

Definately NOT Singapore.
Its either Indonesia, Filiphines, or Malaysia. More likely filipines, far less likely to be Malaysia.

Duo Said:

Selected officers were TASKED?? I wonder what they did to have to deserve this..
