This summer I found several "used kimono" and "used jewelry" stores. I was very surprised. It used to be that people considered old things a little bit dirty, so it was easy to find a good bargain.

Then I went to a used kimono store in Nara. The store owner told me that Japan has really changed in its attitude toward what is collectible. This is good for Japan, because it means people will value their things more. But it also makes buying used kimono and obi more expensive!
