The next prime minister?

I will go out on a wild and crazy limb here and write down here — in the light of public print — that the next prime minister of Japan, following Mr Koizumi’s interesting reign, will be Shinzo Abe, still a young guy at 51 and who will be only 52 when he takes the reins next year.
Am I right or am I wrong?
Probably right, but it’s too early to make predictions.

You’re right, barring some disaster. I think it’s been a done deal for quite a while and cinched by Koizumi’s victory in last month’s elections.
November 1st, 2005 at 1:25 pmWell, what is most interesting about the possibility of Abe getting the nod is that he will be just 52 years old, a very young man in Japanese terms! This will really inspire the younger generations, who are sick and tired of grumpy old men ruining their country. I have heard that 100 VIP families actually run Japan, controlling the government and everything, including dear Koizumi. Any truth to that?
November 1st, 2005 at 3:31 pmWell, an old man running a matsuri food stall once gave me an impromptu 15 minute speech about how todays politicians just inherit their seats from the previous generation and that “nothing has changed since the days of the Samurai.”
November 2nd, 2005 at 11:13 pmThat matsuri stand boss was right. It’s all family matters in J politics. Power passes on through the generations. Happens all over the world, re Bush Kennedy, but seems really solid in Japan. The 100 families rule. Somebody wrote a book on this in Japanese too.
