Gourmet Cats

cat maguro If Japan is a food obsessed country, you can expect its pets to be picky about their food too. According to one report, the palate of your pet very much depends on its country of birth.

In Japan, fish features prominently in the human diet and this taste preference is transferred to Japanese cats which are often fed clam-flavour or squid-flavour food. Although popular belief has it that cats instinctively adore fish, fish is not a cat’s favourite flavour. A cat’s taste preference is largely based on what it is accustomed to eating – and Japanese cats are accustomed to eating a fish-based diet that parallels that of their owners. In the same way, laboratory kittens fed on an experimental diet of cheese-flavoured mashed potato developed a taste for the stuff.

Be that as it may, my cats go absolutely nuts over this brand of cat “maguro” treats. If you live with a feline, try to pick up one of these packets the next time you go to Japan, and your cat may even forgive you for taking off on a trip without him.

I don’t know. My dog goes crazy for tuna, and I live in Texas. Once you open it, he won’t even let you finish plopping it into his bowl before he starts because he’ll just dig his snout into the can. Give him raw ground beef or regular dog food and you won’t get the same reaction.

My cat wouldn’t even touch canned food. If he doesn’t get his fresh kangaroo meat he goes crazy and starts attacking everyone. He’s pretty scary.

Tantan, are you in OZ?
