A Stranger of Mine

One of the films screening at this month’s Golden Horse Film Festival in Taiwan is a Japanese movie titled A Stranger of Mine that traces the lives of five characters in what has been called “a neurotically funny take on modern life in Japan”.

Stranger Of Mine

Directed by Kenji Uchida, 35, the film weaves together the events of a single night told from the point of view of each of the main characters. Skillfully creating a heartwarming Japanese tale of fate, Uchida delivers an innovative love story that comically depicts the innocence of men and the tenacity of women.

That’s what the press release says. Anybody see this one?

That woman is yummy. Who is she?

Also, this movie sounds similar to something HK director Wong Kar-Wai has done. Consider me interested.

The woman in the picture is Yuka Itaya.

The Golden Horse awards were announced last night, after Hong Kong, Japanese, and Taiwanese stars walked down a blue carpet, yes, blue, in a light drizzle in Keelung.

Su Chi won for best actress. “Saving Face” from the USA won some kind of prize. And of course, Kung Fu Hustle won a bunch of awards. But the best prize was for Su Chi. Amazing saga of how a 17 year old video store clerk gets discovered by a porn photographer in high school, makes pictorial books and soft porn videos, moves to Hong Kong and become a major movie star. I hope she makes it in America someday, like Joan Chen. She deserves it.
