Sex Machines

NSFW: About a year ago, a friend in San Francisco was trying to find a publisher for his stellar collection of photographs about inventors of sex machines, and the people who use them.

Several publishers rejected the book proposal at first, but Tim Archibald never gave up, and now, the book has finally been published, with lots of media attention in the USA right now, before the book (and news about the books) reaches Asia and Europe.

For more, see Tim’s blog here.

Though I did not think it possible, Japundit reaches a new low.

Read the interview with the photographer here and you will see what he was trying to do. Not porn. And not a new low. Just more food for thought.

City Paper: How did you come across this subject?

Timothy Archibald: For my job I am a magazine photographer, so I do little picture stories and portraits for magazines. I wanted to do a project meeting and photographing inventors and the things that they invented. When I started to research that I came across a site on the internet that was for inventors of sex machines. I had no idea what that was at all. On the site these guys had pictures of the machines that essentially were what I ended up doing the entire book on, which were these cylindrical, almost painful-looking metal contraptions that had a big flywheel and a thrusting shaft and like a wooden base. They were very rough, and nothing was very polished about them. And then there was this phallic dildo at the end. This combination of mechanical and human just really fascinated me

If that is true, what say you about GIZMODO, which includes a number of photos in its piece about the book?

LETTER FROM MR ARCHIBALD TODAY:

Hi Danny -

Great to hear from you. Still having a blast with the book, as you can see by
tuning into my blog:

Lots of
slideshows at USA bookstores, the show at MOS is now going to Portland at
Powell’s Books…and we get lots of attention in the USA press.

BUT….. unfortunately,
people are not really buying the book!

Actuall bookstore sales are slow…

It has been good for me and my career as a photographer…tho it has been a very slow money maker…. if the book does eventually catch on.

Right now, we
are working on making the BOOK catch on in America. It is listed now on Japan’s amazon.com page, too.
