Trendwatching: Legwarmers
11/22/2005 @ 12:00 pm
I would feel remiss if I did not point out the resurgence of legwarmers.
Personally, I’m not sure how I feel about this trend. It seems to have been picked up again in Japan. The thing is, legwarmers, unlike Japanese food, aren’t really good for everyone. Not everyone should really be wearing these things. We figured this out once upon a time in the 80s. I hope the world figures this out again. And soon.

70s Bell-Bottom jeans used to make me throw up when I was a teenager growing up in the late 80′s early 90′s. I thought they looked ridiculously retarded. But now, girls look really hot in them in my opinion. Trends come back, and so does our point of view.
November 22nd, 2005 at 1:06 pmWhat’s wrong with legwarmers? I don’t get it. are you saying they are unhealthy, bad for blood circulatio, or what’s the deal here?
November 22nd, 2005 at 2:02 pmAnd what do you mean: “It seems to have been picked up again in Japan.”
Where’s the evidence? News or photo proof? Are you posting from Japan or the overseas?
November 22nd, 2005 at 2:04 pmThe leg-warmers don’t really do it for me, but the kneesocks do (see woman at right, though hers are kind of bunchy toward the bottom).
East Asian fashions (or at least Korean and Japanese fashions) seem to be more in synch nowadays than before the Internet got big. It’s kneesock season here, too. If this will get attractive women to wear skirts throughout the winter, I can’t be against it.
November 22nd, 2005 at 2:04 pmThose of you actually in Japan or E. Asia in general might be surprised to know what a comeback 80′s style is making here in the States, following on the heels of, logically enough, a 70′s nostalgia wave.. Stuff it people from the 90′s who claimed 80′s music sucked, because apparently the critical concensus is that it rocks.
(I haven’t seen legwarmers yet tho – those are probably out for good around here.)
November 22nd, 2005 at 3:55 pmknee-high boots are where its at:twisted:
November 22nd, 2005 at 9:32 pmknee-highs and a mid-thigh mini, yeeesss!
November 22nd, 2005 at 10:49 pmLegwarmers are now mostly seen in the cities — in Paris, New York and Tokyo. Actually in New York, so far, it’s mostly the Japanese girls who are wearing them — and I’ve seen them in Tokyo, which sort of stunned me the first time. And yes, the 80s are definitely back in the US. But 80s style is back in Japan as well — check out the “Showa Style” post.
