Cut it out!

A survey has found that self-injury, including cutting of the wrists and other parts of the body has been on the rise in schools in Japan.

A total of 14.3 percent of the female high school students said they had purposely injured themselves at least once, while 6.3 percent said they had done so at least 10 times.

At the junior high school 9.3 percent of the 238 female students and 8 percent of the 239 male students said they had cut themselves with blades.

In addition 27.7 percent of male junior high and high school students and 12.2 percent of female junior high and high school students said they had smashed their heads or fists against walls or similar objects.

The reasons students gave for injuring themselves included anger and a means of making a plea for help.

Wow those figures are pretty high O.o; Don’t think i ever injured myself on purpose as a teenager (i guess i still am a teenager but classed as an adult X.X) Why cut yourself as a plea for help? Why not simply ask for it.

They are called “cutters” in the USA. A certain percentage of kids do this in all countries, especially rich countries where this kind of mental attitude develops. Sad.

In the UK as self-harmers, common enough among the young. The most famous being the guitarist from the Manic Street Preachers who went missing.

Some say its a cry for help while others say its a way of releasing the mental pain…and its the only thing that hurts more.

Hm what this doesn’t mention is that sometimes cutting is actually teens who simply feel numb and its the only way they can feel. Its still a very bizarre thing to do and i sometimes wonder if some of my friends do it, i mean percentages suggest so.

I have to say im pretty sure i have punched a wall once or twice but that was from anger and i wouldn’t do it so hard as to cause damage. Does that mean im a messed up teen?
