Bomb scare probe reveals cake and undies
Police from Fukuoka, Japan’s bomb disposal unit scrambled when a mail carrier found suspicious bags on the mailbox of the administrative offices of the pharmaceutical faculty at Kyushu University earlier this week. The mysterious packages were accompanied by a note that claimed they would explode if anyone tried to open them.
More than 50 bomb disposal officers were mobilized to deal with the threatening packages, which were found to contain. . . underwear and chocolate cake.
They were birthday gifts that a 21-year-old female student at the university’s literary department and another person had planned to present to a 22-year-old female student in the university’s pharmaceutical department.
“I jokingly wrote that it would blow up and placed the gifts on the mail box the previous night so that they wouldn’t be stolen,” the 21-year-old student was quoted as telling investigators.
The students were released by the authorities after receiving a stern reprimand.

May 12th, 2006 at 10:07 amYes(riki)the report was fairly specific. It was chocolate cake. After all there were more than 50 witnesses.
May 12th, 2006 at 10:52 amWith what “scanty” details we have to go on -I suggest there’s a lot more to this than what we have been told.Surely certain mechanical means(robotics?)of bomb detection/containment had to have been used – after all this is Japan!!The spiritual birthplace and natural home of “THE ROBOT”.Now did the human UXB experts tackle the underwear and leave the chocolate cake(c/w Semtex icing)to the ‘bot.Possibly we’ll never know, but again, these questions are well worth asking and “airing” publicly.I’m sure an extensive report is currently being written about this whole affair.
May 12th, 2006 at 1:45 pmThe last line of your article is “The students were released by the authorities are receiving a stern reprimand.” OMG ENGRISH ENGRISH ENGRISH, now you’ve done it
May 13th, 2006 at 8:50 amThanks. . . Fixed it.
May 13th, 2006 at 12:11 pmIn all of my years travelling the globe, I have never received chocolate cake and undies for my birthday. Is this a usual present in the Land of Japan?
