Parental neglect

Once again we get a report of how young parents left their infant in a locked vehicle while they played pachinko, only to come back hours later to find the child dead.
This time it happened in Nagoya where an asshat couple left their 2-month-old baby boy in the car for five hours with all the windows shut.
This type of thing happens way too often in Japan and is widely covered in the news. You have to wonder just what it will take before some idiots finally understand that you just do not leave infants unattended in a closed motor vehicle.
JP, sad story once again, as you said. You know, this happened all the time, it seems when I was in Japan, 1991-1996, with everyone complaining and wondering if these kinds of deaths (murders one might say) would ever stop. Now, 15 years later, it goes on and on. My guess is that this will never stop, until the pachinko places are closed down for good, which will only happen when hell freezes over. It is really sad, that a little kid has to die this way. One wonders why that couple ever had a child in the first place. Maybe one solution would be to have a special place for little kids to be babysat or daycared inside the pachinko halls, free of charge. Until that happens, people will continue to leave their kids in locked, hot cars, and another story like this will appear in the media soon. Maybe some people think: oh, that was the kid’s destiny, his or her fate. No way.

June 1st, 2006 at 3:11 amplease don’t blame the pachinko places. Any parents should know their responsibility to take care of their infants. I blame the parents if they ever lose their eye on their baby. People need to grow up instead of taking personality flaws as a given default.
