Marie Mockett Said:

The Stepford Wives was a terrible movie.

Danny Bloom Said:

I think it’s only natural that as Japan evolves into a postmodern country straddling East and West in a borderless era of globalization, more and more non-Japanese will become part of the culture, from show biz to sports to education to politics. And it will be a good thing. Japan was never a homogenous island chain of one race, it was always mixed race archipelago with Chinese and Korean DNA mixing with Aboriginal DNA from Hokkaido and the Rykkyu islands.

Japan is becoming more and more open to non-Japanese and this is a good development. Come back in 100 years and see what has transpired. Japan will always be Japan, but huge changes are in store. Why not?

Good post, Curzon!

Paul Said:

I can’t believe I read most of those idiotic comments on Curzon’s post. Besides, I’ve seen Japanese people that could seriously pass themselves off as white or hispanic people if they were in the States.

panasianbiz Said:

I agree with Danny Bloom’s comment that it can only benefit Japan to become more open to foreigners. Allowing foreigners to contribute to Japanese society in more substantial ways than teaching English, working in hostess bars, or slogging away in factories is certainly a step in the right direction.
