Someone’s got to take the blame. . .

South Korea has joined Japan in a first-round exit from World Cup 2006, losing 2-0 to Switzerland. Anti-Swiss sentiment already is being predicted in South Korea (I wonder when blame will shift to the U.S. on this one. . .), and some fans in Seoul found unique ways to express their displeasure with the level of officiating during the match.

Meanwhile, back in Japan. . . They seem to have gotten over it, and even have come out with World Cup bikinis for this summer, with designs based on the colors of the Japanese and Brazilian teams.

Go team!
Nah, I’m going to predict it’s all Japan’s fault this time. Japan clearly bribed the officials so that

June 25th, 2006 at 6:36 pmQuestion 4 u. can you show me how to do that thing up there where you crossed out Korea and added Corea? How do you put the crossout line through the already typed word? Clueless on a Sunday afternoon, year 1994…..
Yea, you put the word ’strike’ inside a ” before the word you want to cross-out and then close it with ”.
June 25th, 2006 at 6:44 pmDoh.. I figured that was going to happen
Just use the ’strike’ command like you would ‘blockquote’ or ‘em’ or anything else like that.
June 25th, 2006 at 6:50 pmOk, I admit it: I’m stumped. Just what kind of “protest” is that supposed to be, and what exactly does that fan hope to accomplish?
“The officiating sucked, so I’ll strip down to my drawers.” Is that about the gist of it???
June 25th, 2006 at 9:54 pmPersonally, I think the bikinis make much more sense.
June 25th, 2006 at 9:59 pm[...] UPDATE 5: You know, I think the Japanese are handling their early exit from the World Cup in a much healthier fashion. [...]

June 26th, 2006 at 12:52 amPretty much. The wonderful random looniness of public protest in Korea.
Japan has always been more mature than Korea.

June 26th, 2006 at 12:38 pmThanks, all these years, since Al Gore invented the Internet while making LOVE STORY at Harvard, I didn’t know how people did that strike thing. NOW I know. Thanks. Like this,
wrong, right? The Japanese knew pretty quickly after fumbling their initial group games that beating Brazil to move on to the next round would be impossible. “shikataganai” prevailed. The Koreans had a shot, as long as the French offense failed to produce.
When France went up 2-0, Korea not only needed to beat Switzerland, but score about a zillion goals to make up the goal differential. I guess they’ll be renaming “french fries” now…
