Of Tigers and Toilets

A friend of mine sent me this link as if it were wierd.

I don’t know. Who among us can claim that they have never had singing tigers watch them use the toilet.

Ah…Shimojiro kun. A Japanese education company’s (Benesse) proprietary character. Glad my darling daughter was never into it!

BTW–there are lots of potty training books in English ALMOST as obnoxious. But not quite. That was truly horrible.

How does one actually come across this on the internet exactly..?

Mr. Wake Said:

Supercoolmanchu, hey we all got our little fetishes. So I like tigers going to the bathroom. It’s not a crime!
Is it?

Oh.My.God. Everyday I fight labeling Japan as a “weird” country. But then I’m exposed to things like this. And I love this country even more.

I was gonna share this with some of my friends… but… then I got scared. No matter how I word it, they’re still going to think I’m weird for watching this.

[...] Video 1: Little Shimajiro learns to use the toilet. Featuring the hit songs ‘Pee come out’ and ‘Poop Come Out’. [posted before on japundit] [...]

My kids have many Shimajiro DVDs and tapes, and toilet themes are a very major part of this series. The latest one I saw has Shimajiro and a submarine style vessel being shrunk “Fantastic Voyage” style to be swallowed by a constipated boy. The purpose of the trip is to help push out the poop. (I am not making this up.)

Generally, it seems to me the Japanese have quite a thing about regularity and teaching kids about it. Staying at family house there once, I was surprised that on the inside of the toilet door there was a chart (in cartoon-y style) showing the different styles of poo – rock hard, too loose, just right etc, and how to fix it (eg eat more fruit, etc.) It was there for my hosts’ kids’ benefit, of course.
