Two Japanese Commercials you May Never Have Seen

Pizza La company has produced for us quite possibly the best and strangest commercial we’ve seen in a decade.

The 30 second spot consists of a Pizza Slice leading his ‘topping’ friends to a song and dance. The lyrics are highly complicated and deep:

Pi pi pi pi pizza-la-kun… to to to to topingusu

What happens next is rather strange, something rather inexplicable. So perhaps it’s best if you just watched it yourself. Remember, this ad was paid for by people who want you to eat their pizza. So, did it work? Or did it utterly confuse and possibly frighten you?

The Second Commercial is for Final Fantasy Potion. This ad started running in Japan in March of 2006. The product was ok. It had a really citrus flavor to it and was apparently good for you. Whatever – The point is it sold like hot cakes selling out at nearly all the combini’s in Tokyo. You had to go downtown to Shibuya, or Akihabara if you wanted any… The above is the commercial which was played to deeeaaath!

Enjoy !

Excellent!
What on earth was that little moment about?!

Mr. Wake Said:

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Japanese commercials are much better than Japanese TV.

Any adman would give his right arm for a commercial, no matter how weird and frightening, to be posted on a blog.

No. No-nO-NO.

Great.

Now I have that Pizza ear-bug going on in my head right before going to bed.

This is going to be a hellish night. I really gotta learn not to watch you-tube stuff from this blog when I have to sleep or, basically, stay sane.

I totally agree with you Mr. Wake. I love Japanese commercials.

That Pizza La CM is the greatest commercial I’ve ever seen, but this one for Zelda isn’t bad…

Bruce, funny you should mention that Zelda ad. I saw that again recently was very ‘NATSUKASHI!’ but decided to post the Final Fantasy ad instead!

GREAT choice!!

I liked it partly for the subject matter, partly for the rap but mostly because the girl playing Link (and yeah, it’s a girl) looks like Uchida Yuuki. Pause the video at 21 seconds and you can see her face. My wife says it probably isn’t her, but you never know.

Betty Woo Said:

Well, great.

ALL DAY. “Pi-pi-pi-pi-pizza-la-kun to-to-to-to-toppings”.

On the bus. Sitting at my desk. Exuberant pizza slices and fickle toppings racing through my mind. Walking to lunch, standing in line for lunch. Racing back to the desk. On the bus home. I’m doomed.

I am not going to the Zelda one. No waaaay. Bad man, Bruce! Bad man.

Bruce_A Said:

Hey, don’t fear the Zelda! It’s not nearly as catchy as Pizza-la-kun!
