Getting Old With your ‘Other’ Loved One

love of pets

Is it just me or do pets turn friends crazy? All my friends with pets in Japan have completely lost their minds I swear it! Pictures of the animal on their cell phone desktop, inside their car, paying top dollar for dog coats and now, as the above shows, massages seem to be all the rage!

Anyways the above photo is a Boston Terrier receiving a massage in Tokyo. A survey reveals that Japan’s dogs and cats are getting older thanks to advances in veterinary medicine and the care which many people lavish on their four-legged friends.

They’re not having kids, so something has to take the place of that.

I remember my mother used to have in depth discussions with her cats literally asking them intelligent questions, pausing to listing to them (sometimes answering herself), and responding to the imagined answer with more discussion. While I have known other women, and men, who talk to their animals (I have myself), it is usually just baby talk or rhetorical questions (You’re a good little kitty, huh? etc.) She really set the standard.
