just that word – community -(JP)- when I first entered Japan and was taken out to “you-know-where” I was poleaxed by what I remembered of my birthtown…a sense/sence of community.

Now,you are in Tochigi and I’m next door (down the hill) in Gunma.

I’ve returned on numerous occasions to my small “billage” in the UK…

There is no way back

That is my biggest worry (shimpai).

The _Showa_ Emperor’s wife (who’s name escapes me now) died just a couple of years ago at a very advanced age. She apparently had made Empress Michiko’s life a living hell back when Michiko married Akihito in 1959. In all fairness to the J-royals, though, some have aquitted themselves quite well: Naruhito seems to be a genuinely sweet guy, and Prince Mikasa, who must be pushing 100, has always been a class act.

Well, Raj, you don’t know do you, since you haven’t read the book and made up your mind for yourself. You’ve let other people think for you.

There are some interesting observations in the book, which I’ll share at some point. Hopefully JP too, once he’s done reading.

“Akihito” in item 3 was a typo. I’ll fix it now.

The point is, so many of you judged something without knowing anything about it. A book was essentially banned. I care about books a great deal, and I think the decision was wrong.
