Daikon ashi, or ashi daikon?

After that rash of dokonjo daikon (lone, “gutsy radishes” that grow in unexpected and unlikely spots, even through road surfaces) stories a couple of years ago, there’s been a decided dearth of decent daikon drama.
Well the waiting’s over. A farmer in Kitakyushu has found what is sure to keep fans of oddly shaped vegetables amused.
As the report in the Mainichi explains –
“Daikon ashi,” or fat legs shaped like a daikon radish, is one of the great fears of Japanese women (ashi is the Japanese word that encompasses the leg, foot and toes).
Well instead, farmer Hitomi Katamura, 51, has unearthed a daikon shaped like a foot, complete with ankle and five radish toes.
Forget ingrown nails, that’s positively sexy!
