Mike Oxlong – I think the failure to pay membership dues in an organization, and the refusal to pay for things such as rent for land and fines for parking violations constitute separtate and unrelated issues.

I was under the impression that embassy premises technically constituted a part of the territory of the state whose embassy is situated on the land in question. I was unaware that such land can also be leased.

Actually, Tantan, this sort of thing is not uncommon in the diplomatic world. Look at all the trouble New York City has had trying to get the various UN delegations there to pay fines for parking/traffic violations.

Hahaha! It’s funny. Nothing much has changed since Perry landed. Americans were going by their own rules then with unequal treaties then, and still playing by their own rules with military who don’t answer to Japanese law.

Only Americans could get away with something like this.

Hey, that’s a great idea! The next time my landlord raises the rent, I’ll just stop paying.
