April 2nd, 2007 at 12:20 pmHere in Quebec, the term “fuck” is apparently used with greater frequency on French-language radio due in part to the fact that it doesn’t impart the sort of shock value the word represents in English. In a similar vein, I’ve heard the term “shit” used by English-language speakers on Japanese television a couple of times in the past few months (via the Internet – wink, wink) in contexts that were jarring to someone used to the standards applied to American TV. (I realize of course that such standards are constantly evolving.) In other words, these Japanese shows were hardly HBO-type dramas that I was watching. It’s not something I find offensive. Rather, it’s interesting to see these English-language speakers on Japanese TV trying to slip one past the producers/broadcasters.
April 2nd, 2007 at 12:30 pmAs for this t-shirt, I’d love to know its history. If only these iron-on letters could speak….
Well we’ve all been there before at his age. Why I remember when I was in second grade with some 151 and there was this eight year old girl sucking on my nuts…Oh wait, no I don’t because I was eight and eight year olds don’t drink or fuck…What the fuck?
Seriously, some asshole gaijin is raking in the dough designing shirts for Japanese that can’t read english…his parents should be ashamed of themselves…but if they were dumb enough to let him wear this shirt they’re probably to fucking dumb to understand why people like them shouldn’t have kids.
April 2nd, 2007 at 12:30 pmlemme guess – and the back says “AND 2 STONED 2 CARE”.
April 2nd, 2007 at 12:38 pmSame t-shirt in Taiwan, JP. The word has no shock value outside English speaking counties….
April 2nd, 2007 at 12:56 pmPerhaps the parents are just huge Dead kennedys fans?

April 2nd, 2007 at 4:21 pm2 years ago when I went to see the Noodles and the Pillows play in NYC at the Knitting Factory, we were wandering around the city getting a load on at various bars before the show, and one of my companions, a native New Yorker, dashed into a store and came out with a black t-shirt with white lettering that said “FUCK YOU YOU FUCKIN’ FUCK” as a gift for me. Not something that I would ever consider wearing, so I stuffed it in a pocket and forgot about it. In retrospect, I should have tried to give it to Ikuno when she signed my CD.
