Mayor’s killer sent letters to media

The man who shot and killed the Nagasaki Mayor Ito Itcho had apparently sent letters to TV Asahi that criticized the mayor.
Mainichi News is reporting that the letters sent on April 15 and bearing the Nagasaki Central Post Office postmark, were delivered to TV Asahi on Tuesday. Several cassette tapes were enclosed. The mobster turned killer wrote the following:

“I, Tetsuya Shiroo, hereby write the truth, and take responsibility for what I do. I can’t forgive Nagasaki Mayor Itcho Ito because I can’t tolerate wrongdoing for the sake of city residents and prefectural residents. There was a breach of promise over the work to dismantle the Unzen Hot Spa Center. (The municipal government) offered to give me 1 million yen as an apology, but I haven’t received the money,”

The above seems to suggest that he was in a dispute with the municipal government over a public works contract. Although if your familiar with politics in Japan and yakusa dealings, I believe there is much more to this story then what has currently been disclosed.

I suspect it will take some time to figure out the truth.

Here’s the reason he killed the Mayor–his car was scratched while being parked next to a public works project. No kidding.

“Some media said Shiroo had been upset at the city’s handling of a traffic accident four years ago in which his car was damaged as it passed a public works construction site.” –Reuters

My wife read reports in the Japanese media that Ito had promised to pay money for the damage in an effort to “keep the peace” but never payed up. Either way, I still don’t think that is the complete story on this.

I’m going to try and find some links to the site she was talking about.

hello Alex could you please do a small post on white rice bran soap and the benefits it has for skin beauty because it seems very interesting to me and has nothing to do with shooting people or baking giant jellyfish cookies and other such flummery and some peeple on this site might get interested and informed and start using some of it to make themselves happier and cheerful. (and smiling).

thank you rem.

Remora,

I believe I can accommodate this wish! I know the news (and thus posts on this site) have been rather grim recently.

I promise I will have cheerful and good news posts in the next few days..

Is this Shiroo fellow trying to outdo Cho Seung-Hui by assassinating a public official?

overoften Said:

Something which was reported the day after…

“Shiroo was involved in a separate dispute with the city around 2003 over a construction company to which he used to provide a large amount of funding.

Sources said the construction company, which had tried to use the city’s lending system for small and midsize companies, was not eligible for a loan after it failed to pass screening by a financial institution.”

…which always sounded much more likely to me to be his motive. He’s getting pressure from above, and then his nice government funding is cut off. Seems a bit more plausible than “they didn’t pay to repair my dinged car”.

alexpappas Said:

I completely agree Overoften. The motives the police are claiming make no sense. Even if the man was deranged which he may or not be, something is missing from the story.

I am much more inclined to believe your comments then I am anything “official” that I’ve read so far.
