well I won’t be punning that one,as it probably involves some very rude adult words, and as my Mum visits this site from time to time,I don’t want her to think that I’m up to no good…and speaking of my Mum she used to give me some of that nice Horlicks stuff every night before she tucked me up in bed and read me a story usually about Moomintroll’s or White rabbits..y’know the really great stuff that you can’t seem to buy anymore!..why not?.
pip!pip! overoften Dan Dare would be very proud to hear you say that.I became the intelligent person that I am today with the aid of Horlicks and my Eagle comics…what’s gone wrong with the world?.
well pulling this out of the fire and back to Japan, I would be interested to know of an equivalent Japanese product, that is given around bedtime mainly to children, but also suitable for adults that aids sleep.
(I must away to my home now,it is getting quite late…brew up some Horlicks and settle down with raunchy men’s mag.)
here is the real terms of ‘Horlicks’: “The term was used in July 2003 by British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw (”a complete Horlicks”) to describe irregularities in the preparation and provenance of a dossier regarding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.”
‘The product’s name has entered the vernacular as a substitute for the profanity “bollocks”. This was exploited by the company in a 1990s advertising campaign, in which a harassed housewife exclaims “Horlicks” in a context where a stronger term could have been expected’
There is a small Japan connection in Horlicks…as well as playing Darts,Drinking Beer, etc…I have been known to have a Punt…..Horlicks was the 1989 winner of the Japan Cup.
It’s a New Zealand horse by the way.
er..oh yeah..one more little tidbit of useless information on this miraculous product.
“1873: James Horlick, a pharmacist, joins his brother William in the U.S. and together they found the company J & W Horlicks in Chicago to manufacture a patented malted milk drink as an artificial infant food.”
