There are many theories out there concerning the origins of mankind, some more plausible than others. And I don’t know which one you were taught, but I bet it wasn’t this one.

This is definitely bizarre. But some way I can’t laugh at because people in north Korea possibly (or be forced to) believe in this kind of native centric information. And this country is geologically near from Japan.
Also, I am cynical to believe that Japan once could have been a little bit similar totalitarian nation some 65 years ago.

The PRC Academy of Sciences hold to the local origin theory of human evolution (human groups evolved locally where they’re found today from some far-ranging early hominid through local versions of Homo erectus into the modern H. sapiens sapiens) vs. the Out-of-Africa theory which is pretty much a proven fact by now (everyone descends from already anatomically modern humans in Africa 200K years ago.) The PRK just stretched Beijing’s theory to the extreme local level. Pretty useful if you’re a xenophobic dictatorship or prepping your populace for something which requires them to believe they’re racial supermen. And yes I can see Imperial Japan adopting the same view years ago too Tofu, I guess the science was just too new to speculate about human origins back then since the Leakey’s haven’t made their discoveries in Tanzania yet.

Thanks to the development of molecular biology(especially recent developments in genetics, such as tracing past migrations of peoples through their mitochondria and Y-chromosomal DNA, and ancestry-informative markers), we know that local origin theory of human evolution (including “The Black Mountain Grape Homonids”) was incorrect and Out-of-Africa theory is correct.
According to basic research of the anthropology, there had been at least 19 homo species who died out before the survival of modern homo sapiens. (For the human evolution from ape to human, it took about 6 Million years.)
The last extermination was of Homo Neanderthalensis who died out just 24 thousands years ago, probably caused by modern homo sapiens or partly mated. The only ability of modern homo sapiens which is considered to be superior over Homo Neanderthalensis was the communication skill by spoken language. Homo Neanderthalensis was not supposed to speak fluently due to throat dissection feature.
