He’s got a lot to sweat about. They are in trouble this election, although I think their majority is big enough to survive even a thrashing in this election (not enough of their seats up for reelection). What’s killing them in this scandal is that many of the local governments which had traditionally kept the pension account info have already destroyed the paper copies. So there’s very little you can do, unless your employer kept copies or you kept your old copies of pension funds submitted. I still can’t believe they didn’t keep the paper records for at least a couple years after digitizing them…but that’s Japan. It’s amazing sometimes how few records get kept long term in Japan. Usually they claim “not enough space” as the reason.
