They’ve got to be kidding

At a blogger convention held in Chicago recently, people started floating the idea of a bloggers union?!?

What would a bloggers union do if it did not get its way? Against whom would it strike? Would bloggers refuse to post in order to enforce their demands? Would they shut down the Internet?

I hope no one is taking these people seriously, because the last thing the world needs is an organization that puts certain bloggers in charge of everyone else, which is what this type of thing inevitably leads to.

All the feel-good talk about “community” and “health care” sounds nice, but following close behind are the control freaks with their blogging code of ethics, accreditation (which actually means “licensing,” which actually means someone getting to decide who gets in and who is shut out) for coverage of media events, and some ominous sounding “auditing program.”

Have these people already forgotten what blogging is all about?
