Another American first!

Rick Guttormson, an American pitcher with the Pacific League Softbank Hawks has become the first player in the history of Japanese baseball ever to have failed a drug test.
According to the league’s commissioner, Rick Guttormson tested positive for a banned substance and has been suspended for 20 days. Guttormson’s team, the Softbank Hawks in Japan’s Pacific League, were fined $63,000.
Japanese baseball officials say a postgame test July 13 revealed Finasteride in Guttormson’s system. Finasteride is in a hair-growing agent the 30-year-old Guttormson has been taking for two years. It’s banned because it can be used as a masking agent.
Perhaps he could claim the test is a bald-face lie. . .
I saw Rick Guttormson’s picture on Nikkansports newspaper. He was showing his strong muscled right arm, and enough hairs on his head in the picture. (-_-)

August 11th, 2007 at 5:31 pmJust caught the report about this on the TV news, and they showed multiple video scenes of Guttormson. Like TofuUnion says, the guy has a full and lush head of hair.
Either that Finasteride works really, really well, or. . .

Solves all problems and just look how great it worked for Elton John… .
August 12th, 2007 at 8:16 amHe may be taking it to prevent baldness. Being all skin on top myself, I do notice that guys, and some women, are a bit obsessed with fear of baldness.
The obvious question is: how would performance drugs enhance a pitcher’s performance?
I wouldn’t think they would make enough difference to warrant the risk. Pitching is not as dependent on stamina or strength as other activities. For the same reason, golfers don’t take performance enhancing drugs. Pitching is as much mental as anything.
And Betty, no amount of hair in the world can make Elton John any more palatable!
