X Marks The Fake?

The X Factor can be a big deal in the UK, being the country that invented the format.
However, the Japanese community in the UK is apparently up in arms about one contestant, “Totoshko’s, claim to have come to audition all the way from Japan (”She’s so Chinese!” I was told), claiming she is in fact a fake.
What do you reckon?
I’d say she’s Japanese. Appallingly bad singer, though.
September 10th, 2007 at 12:11 amI suppose I could just look it up but I’ll ask it anyway: is the format of this show like that of American Idol? (In other words, are you supposed to be a good singer to pass?)
September 10th, 2007 at 12:29 amI was a bit disappointed to see Simon (and the rest of the judges) go easy on her.
Well, I guess compared to the “I Work In A Chicken Factory” guy, this girl was Maria Callas….

Japanese, Chinese? She definitely had Japanese mannerisms. I too was disappointed for the kid-glove treatment she received. And they said she was cute?? I think they actually felt sorry for her being so damn ugly!! She has the ‘kawaii’ hook mannerisms down pat.
September 10th, 2007 at 1:41 amMy B.S. detector didn’t go off at her accent (unlike watching “Ando-san” in Heroes). So I’d say she’s likely Japanese.
September 10th, 2007 at 1:42 amHow about all that patronizing from the judges? “You’re like a little China doll” isn’t the most sensitive thing to say to an Asian person.
