This is really old news but NBC aired it again last weekend, so …

Japanese dancer Kanichi won the “2006 Apollo Dance Challenge” at Harlem’s famous Apollo theater.

While the resolution of the video is not very good, I think the cheque is actually for 5,000 dollars (there appears to be a dollar sign and two decimal point zeros indicating cents), which would mean that the MC was just making a lame joke.
