Use mobile phones gently

I shot the above in a train I was on the other day.
I wonder what constitutes gentle use of a cellphone. . . And what non-gently use of a cellphone would be. . .
The Japanese text merely warns users to put their phones into the manner mode, without any admonition to treat their cells tenderly.
Are English speakers really that rough with their communication equipment?
