boa, japan, and a honeymoon: what went wrong
03/03/2008 @ 7:09 am
planning on visiting japan?
thinking you can get by on your bank of america card and local atms?
think you’ll be fine because you told boa’s fraud department you’d be in japan during the dates of the trip and will be making regular withdraws?
I seem to remember that in general, it’s a lot harder to get cash from an ATM in Japan than it is in Europe. I think.
BTW–do you have a special aversion to capital letters? Not a criticism per se. Just curious.
March 3rd, 2008 at 7:39 amI’m afraid this is not an unusual occurrence.
March 3rd, 2008 at 7:46 amBanks are trying to protect not just themselves
but their customers as well. Unfortunately it
sometimes doesn’t turn out too well.
I know of one woman whose flight was canceled
and she was stranded at the airport and couldn’t
get a hotel room because her card was shut off.
Always have two cards. Preferably on different networks.
March 3rd, 2008 at 7:57 amI clicked on the title expecting some pictures of the Korean chanteuse.
March 3rd, 2008 at 8:54 amOr perhaps some snakes.
Yeah, would it kill you to actually capitalize a word or two? Your posts read like you just graduated from lolsp34k but aren’t ready to join the rest of the adults.
March 3rd, 2008 at 8:59 amFunny, Overoften! I was expecting a post about Boa as well!
March 3rd, 2008 at 9:33 amWhy would anyone honeymoon in Japan anyway? You ask any normal, well-adjusted American woman where she would honeymoon, and Japan won’t even cross her mind. In fact, she’ll likely have an aversion to it. It’s easily the dorkiest, most unromantic and misogynistic country in the developed world.
March 3rd, 2008 at 10:01 amI prefer using credit cards, too. But I *always* have about $150 in traveller’s cheques for a trip for, well, just this contingency. Always, always, always.
I shall offer up an other example of Stupid Customer Service and why we should never trust front line people:
:::edited out since my blood pressure nearly caused my head to explode with the retelling:::.
March 3rd, 2008 at 1:20 pmmarie,
to answer your question it is a hook, a gimmick, something to distinguish me from other bloggers you have encountered. i think it gives me a unique style which stands out on this particular blog. it is merely that and nothing more.
i don’t actually write or type like this when not on this site, in fact if you read my posts immediately after a publish them, you’ll find that i often accidentally leave a few capitalized letters out of force of habit. i go back and edit them out
(now for my “in character” answer)
marie: the answer is somewhat esoteric but should become clear to you with further study, postulation, and testing
happy now?
March 3rd, 2008 at 3:48 pmBut no capitalization makes reading sentences and paragraphs more of a slog.
The eyes and mind are looking for visual stops that a period just doesn’t convey optically.
Without sarcasm or trying to sound like your 3rd grade teacher - capitalization is a *good* thing (unless you’re e.e. cummings).
I find it difficult to read some of your erudite postings because my eyes are skittering around trying to find the start of a sentence somewhere in a paragraph.
In the end, the message risks getting lost in the method, if you know what I mean.
Of course, that could be the whole esoteric (non) point - pardon grammatical pun.
Still doesn’t take away from the fact you may loose some of the very readers you may actually want to communicate with, though… .
I’m just sayin’… .
March 3rd, 2008 at 4:15 pmNo, really it’s just annoying. It may make you stand out, but certainly not in a good way.
March 3rd, 2008 at 5:04 pm“happy now?”
Well, you did make me smile. . .
March 3rd, 2008 at 10:50 pmI had the same problem last week with washington mutual. I told them my dates in japan ahead of the trip and they still managed to shut my bank card of TWICE in the span of 3 days.
March 4th, 2008 at 10:27 amWho needs cash anyway? Although I also always have a couple hundred “just in case,” I never use it.
Paul, you REALLY have a problem!
