Some Japanese English I’ll never understand.

“Some Japanese English I’ll never understand.”..well edojin, that raises a rather interesting question.
Do you think its a subtle ploy by some clever Japanese to exact a form of perverse revenge on us unsuspecting English speaking foreigners?
Afterall, who amongst us hasn’t cocked-up some phrase or other, whilst scribbling away in Japanese?..(as a flurry of hands punch the sky).
In my case, being a bit of a fan of cryptic crosswords I find the whole business of Engrish a delightful (never ending) challenge. An opportunity to run away from the dull constricting rules of so-called English Grammer and Speling…(yawn)
I have witnessed my own countrymen explode into a tirade of outrage and disbelief when first confronted with one of these exquisite little tee-shirty or sign thingies..then after a while they settle down, and just chuckle to themselves, and see the complete wonderful humour and irony of it all.
*I say “more please” – if it’s not too much trouble Japan.*
Vive le Engrish!
oh,and by the way it struck me that Merino (not to be confused with Mourinho overoften) is an anagram of Remino…and I’m sure that some kind Australian type person, would be only too happy to fill us in on that remarkable type of Sheep.
remora
March 8th, 2008 at 5:02 amWell, thanks, remora, for pointing out the anagram. Thanks to you, I now know what is a merino!
Engrish is great. I look forward to introduce Flenchi (Japanese “French”) to Japan.
I’ve been told there’s a common saying in Japan about sharing one’s pillow, which basically translates to sleeping with someone.
