The Secret Desire of the Ninja
07/07/2008 @ 12:00 am
These stealthy assassins of yore…what lurks deep in their hearts?

Their whole lives are dedicated to their craft…to stealth, to sabotage, to espionage, to theft, and to assassination.
But what do they dream of when they allow themselves to succumb to sleep’s gentle embrace?
What is it that they secretly yearn to do?
Watch this short documentary or “ninjumentary” and learn “The Secret Desire of the Ninja.”
It’s also up for votes on Current TV but some pretentious little snots have voted negative on it because they’ve got no love for the Ninja. Go over there and show your support for the Ninja and vote green.
I voted negative… Not to be mean, but the ninja show was weak, and the dancing was horrible.
July 7th, 2008 at 12:52 amwell thanks for nothing, jackass! Next time after all the time and effort I put into stories and videos here if you feel the need to hit negative button on current jump in front of train instead.
The idea of the video was to be a joke not about the quality of their dancing. What could you not possibly understand of that? I’m tired of throwing my effort out there just have some smarmy git like yourself piss on it for no good reason.
July 7th, 2008 at 1:21 amwaitaminute, do you mean you voted negative on the Youtube vid or on the Current TV one? If the former one, I don’t care so much as a rating is a rating but if the latter, then there’s a train at noon tomorrow. Be under it.
July 7th, 2008 at 1:41 amhmmm watch the first minute of the dance and then watch this video….
http://youtube.com/watch?v=eslOq6fAgVQ
see any resemblance? Not that i mind, just cool that I have such a sharp mind
Are you in that video btw david? :p
July 7th, 2008 at 2:52 amwhoa… calm down please. I understood it was a joke, but as a joke, it was boring as well.
July 7th, 2008 at 3:57 am“well thanks for nothing, jackass!”
David, aren’t you taking this too seriously?
July 7th, 2008 at 5:37 amRaj, I have every right to be pissed off. I took the time and effort to put this together as I do with every video and post. And I don’t get any money for it so when some do-nothing smarmy jackass like menrui dumps on something I worked hard at, I get justifiably annoyed and wonder why I should bother. It’s not his criticism I object to but his actions of voting negatively on it.
July 7th, 2008 at 9:57 amYes, David has every right to be mad. I’m sure every one has had the experience of putting in so much time, effort, and money into something but still receive some kind of negativity. However, I do not like that he threaten my life by asking me to die. David gives us a link to his video on current.com. Current.com seems like a very competitive site in which people judge videos&news, and then the most popular are shown on TV. I watched his video thoroughly, and gave my honest judgment by voting it down. In other note, I’ve seen Davids’ other video and news on japundit.com and I think they are great.
July 7th, 2008 at 11:26 am99% of people who come on-line happily soak up all the free info and entertainment without themselves producing a jot. Which is OK. That’s just the way it is.
So the least one can do is to encourage those who take pains to make the effort, and refrain from being negative. If you don’t like it, just ignore it. The only excuses for criticizing a post are:
1- You think it’s offensive.
2- It is an opinion piece and you disagree.
3- It is dishonest or misleading
I can’t see how any of those apply here. So, what is the point of actually taking the physical action of voting against this video, menrui? What good did it do? You said yourself that you enjoy his posts. Why, then, would you slap him in the face like that, and discourage him from posting further? It’s not very nice, and your justifications are disingenuous.
Of course he’s pissed off. He’s bent over backwards to entertain you, and you thank him by kicking him in the balls. That called a figurative expression, by the way, like when he suggested you get hit by a bus. He didn’t mean it literally. As far as I know.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:33 pmI’m sorry to say but it’s bad…samurai Dave might enjoy bringing Japan to the masses but a quality performance it was not. i’ve taken part in plenty of martial art embu’s in my life and can say, don’t show this to anybody who has trained for more than 10 years plus. it made me cringe.
I studied fine art and I remember being told ‘are you ready for the critics?’ So keep going Dave but don’t blame the rest if your tastes don’t reflect what people like…take it, and move on. Don’t shout and scream.
July 7th, 2008 at 10:54 pmThanks, ghoti! I’m glad someone here gets it. Too many do-nothings just suck up the efforts of the do-somethings and every once and while trash their efforts for no good reason.
Menrui, I realize now by your comments that you’re not exactly the sharpest spoon in the drawer. You reasons for voting negatively showed you missed the point by a country mile as did nipponbound. I had no control over their dancing skills or lack thereof. I wasn’t the bloody choreographer after all.
This video was meant to be cheesy and corny - I thought that staggeringly obvious by the music, the description, and the lead-in. I expected some groans, chuckles, and a few “what the hell…” but not the kind of wet blanket remarks you made nor your effort to be a dick by making the effort to vote negatively on it.
As for nipponbound, of course it’s bad. That had nothing to do with true martial arts. I would have thought the fan-nunchuck dance would have been a dead give-away. This was meant to be funny - instead thanks to Menrui’s actions it turned into something too serious where people are exactly giving observations on the martial abilities of dancing ninja! Bloody hell, people, get a clue, why don’t you? Still, bad or not, at least they were willingly to get up and do something unlike most people. That ninja who fell at the end kept going despite his injury.
And nipponbound I will shout and scream all I like against people like Menrui if their actions affect me negatively as they did. Critics should be prepared to have their critiques criticized especially when they’re way off the mark.

“So, what is the point of actually taking the physical action of voting against this video, menrui?”
I thought the voting buttons were for “like” or “dislike”, rather than “sort of ok maybe” and “absolutely hate”.

“I took the time and effort to put this together as I do with every video and post.”
Yes, I’m happy to hear that.
“It’s not his criticism I object to but his actions of voting negatively on it.”
What exactly is the problem with that? If lots of people like it his one vote won’t change anything. And if you place your videos on a system with some sort of vote mechanism then you have to expect the possibility of negative as well as positive votes.
“And nipponbound I will shout and scream all I like against people like Menrui if their actions affect me negatively as they did”
I’m sorry, how is this going to effect you? You going to lose money or status in the community? You do realise that your bitter responses here could easily be damaging your online image (unless you want to claim this is blog has low-traffic).
July 9th, 2008 at 5:14 am“Menrui, I realize now by your comments that you’re not exactly the sharpest spoon in the drawer.”
I admit, I’m not the brightest charcoal in the bag either.
Anyways, can we just drop this? No one is going to win here.
July 9th, 2008 at 5:49 amAmen to that - please consider JAPUNDIT’s on-line image.
remora
July 9th, 2008 at 5:55 amI’ll address this to you raj, since David shouldn’t have to defend himself here.
The voting buttons do ask like or dislike. You are free to push either. But you are not compelled to - you can just push neither. So, consider that you would not be there at all if not requested to do so by David, whose content you have been freely enjoying for a while now:
You are saying that your obligation to push a button on a website you’ve never been to is greater than your obligation to not to take negative action against someone who has been producing content for your enjoyment, asking nothing in return. Your loyalties are seriously misplaced.
Secondly, let’s say you just can’t help yourself, and you push the thumbs down button. The need of the anonymous public to know even this trivial thing is greater than the need to return a favor.
OK. Then, why come back to Japundit and announce your action to David? To be “honest?”
This is a good example of why tatemae is sometimes better than so called “honesty.” The honesty here did nobody any good, and probably did some harm.
July 9th, 2008 at 8:37 am“OK. Then, why come back to Japundit and announce your action to David? To be “honest?””
Well, I was kind of motivated to do this from what David posted on current.com:
“Aw, c’mon! Ya cowardly little redlighting punks! Got no sense of humor or the balls to speak your mind?”
It probably would of been best to keep my comment on current.com.
July 9th, 2008 at 10:05 amRaj, would any of us be here if not for menrui’s original action? You criticize me but not the originator of all this? That makes no sense. Your comments here mystify me. So I am just suppose to take menrui’s negative action lying down without say-so? A creator should have the right to defend his works.
I have spent a lot of time and effort putting together my blogs and videos. Is it too much to ask for that people who have been enjoying them over the years, make the minimalest of efforts and vote on another site to get just some of those videos aired on a cable tv channel which would net me some small amount cash?
Menrui’s actions were detrimental towards that. I feel rather stabbed in the back because if I had not asked for that support from users on a site that normally they say they enjoy my efforts i would not have received that negative vote. I made a mistake apparently reaching my hand for help and I was slapped down as a result. Raj, can you not possibly understand why I would be justifiably angry over that?
Remora, you speak of Japundit’s image. Who here is more detrimental to that image? Menrui whose negative action started this or myself who has been posting countless number of blogs and videos over the years and all I ask is that once and a while those who enjoy my efforts help me out by helping me get some of that effort on TV? The money I would make is just a pittance to what I have spent over the years traveling around Japan and the time and effort I put forth in research, photo editing, video editing, and writing. I don’t think I’m asking much of people for a just a little help.
Menrui, I hope you learned something from this and that in the future you will think twice before offhandedly raining negativity on someone’s efforts while you yourself produce nothing. If you had just said it sucked I wouldn’t have cared but your efforts brought us all here.
July 9th, 2008 at 10:13 amMenrui, you were motivated by my comments on Current? WTF? That had nothing to do with you or Japundit. That’s a Current matter that a number of users such as myself over there have been complaining about for the last year when they introduced the voting system which allowed people to vote negatively but give no comments as to why.
We had videos and threads made complaining about it but nothing as of yet has been done about it. So my comments which spurred on your actions is something I’ve been doing in protest of anonymous negative voters both on my videos and on others who are unfairly targeted by such negative cowards.
In short, those comments were none of your affair so your rationale for your actions just makes me think that you not exactely playing with a full deck of cards.
July 9th, 2008 at 10:19 amI abstain

July 9th, 2008 at 11:12 am“if I had not asked for that support from users on a site that normally they say they enjoy my efforts i would not have received that negative vote.”
Is that likely? You have to be a registered user to vote at that site. So as a self-professed fan of your previous stuff, isn’t it likely that s/he has voted positively on previous videos?
Or are you saying s/he went to all the bother of registering simply to vote this video down? (Has that been said, and I missed it?) In that case, I’d be a bit off too.
July 9th, 2008 at 11:36 amOK. I think that everyone has had their say here so let’s close commenting on this post.
If anyone feels they still have something they wish to say on this subject, please drop me a line and I will consider adding it.
