They are slaughtering a pheasant, which is the national bird of Japan. They are upset that Japanese textbooks will include, as of 2010 (I believe), mention of the Takeshima Islands (called Dokto in Korean) that both Japan and Korea claim.
Oh, and they are demonstrating why the people of the world find Koreans to be extremely disagreeable people: proud beyond reason, prone to explosive rage at the drop of a hat, etc. In a word: anti-social and dysfunctional (OK, that’s two words…).
The irony is that the pheasant they slaughtered is known as the Korean Pheasant in Japan, while the actual subspecies of pheasant which serves as Japan’s national bird is only found in Japan (surprise surprise) and wasn’t killed.
I think I read somewhere that the only revision was to the teacher’s guide, not the actual textbook…and it notes that the islands are claimed by both Korea and Japan (oh no, don’t tell a truth in education! The horror!).
Can anyone explain what these idiots are doing? It’s so far beyond my ability to comprehend I can’t even comment.
July 20th, 2008 at 10:19 amAre they going to also eat the flags they slaughtered the birds on as well?
