September 13th, 2008 at 9:41 amHey… Hang in there ienkenshi. Keep us posted about how it all goes for you.
September 13th, 2008 at 11:25 amCompetitions and puzzles. . . I guess we could, but who is going to organize them?
September 13th, 2008 at 11:29 amHow old? Hmmmm. . . Mentally or physically? 90% of the time I would say that JAPUNDIT is fit for any age that can handle the level of the subject matter. That other 10% though. . .
September 13th, 2008 at 11:31 am11pm CST. the power has been flicking on and off every 10 minutes or so. wind gusts are approaching hurricane force winds in houston, though galveston is getting the worst right now. winds will be 70 mph to possible 100 mph by early morning. we’ve been luckier than the forecasts have predicted so far. hope it stays that way.
September 13th, 2008 at 12:49 pmI could..or ruben could..or elizabeth from mog-mog could..or osa-chan & sto-chan from the remora/Arden collective could..
We don’t see any problemo’s

September 13th, 2008 at 1:03 pmgood luck ienkenshi, although I know Texas will show that hurricane where to shove it =P.
September 13th, 2008 at 3:26 pmSo I recently ran across an argument between some gaijin (A + B). A was giving advice to another party about traveling within Japan and said that an easy way to save money is to skip through the train exit turn styles without paying. This incurred the wrath of B who immediately called out A on this stupid behavior. Of course A claimed that because no one know notices him (or if they do he plays the “stupid gaijin” card) that he isn’t doing any harm.
B called A a petty thief and I agree with that statement. How sad is it that people can fool themselves into justifying their blatantly rude actions? Argh, it’s really infuriating. Once again puts gaijin in a bad light.
September 13th, 2008 at 3:39 pmAnd, of course, there is the result that gaijins start to be viewed at petty thieves. . . Or at least dumb. . .
September 13th, 2008 at 5:05 pmRunning a site like JAPUNDIT exposes me to tons and tons of e-mail each day. I’ve got to say, however that this one takes the cake.
September 13th, 2008 at 5:06 pmRemember, kids. If you want to put the frighteners on someone, pay attention to basic grammar and spelling.
September 13th, 2008 at 5:55 pmEspecially when you are spelling the name of the bogeyman.
September 13th, 2008 at 5:58 pmbest thing to do is cuddle up to the missus (or the dutch wife & teddy) - or go out into the garden under the current full moon..take off your clothes..

September 13th, 2008 at 6:08 pmWhy is there so little reportage about Kyushu?
(its almost like down in Dixie..)
is there an internal snobbery in Japan
Honestly - I’m interested

September 13th, 2008 at 6:37 pmWell, JAPUNDIT has an active reporter in Kumamoto in Overoften.
Besides him, I have received inquiries from a number of different people in Kyushu who said they would like to contribute. I also got offers from a Japanese person living in the U.S. and various other people who said they would like to contribute to JAPUNDIT.
Tons of offers, but no contributions. I wonder sometimes if everyone is sitting out there waiting for me to start complaining or somethine. . .
September 13th, 2008 at 7:30 pmwell i suppose its the old “ebb and flow” sffect..
take your clothes off right now Edward..run outside into the garlic patch - and Dance under the Full Moon.

September 13th, 2008 at 8:18 pmYeah, ebb and flow. Problem is there seems to be way too much ebb.
September 13th, 2008 at 10:28 pmpower was out from 12 to 8 this morning. one of our fences was ripped down and we have plant debris everywhere, not as bad as expected. downtown houston and galveston got the worst, with glass and office debris all over the streets. curfews are still in effect for the greater houston area. well, time to clean up.
- thanks for the words of support and encouragement!
September 14th, 2008 at 2:08 amglad you made it ienkenshi!
So the strangest thing literally just happened to me. Went out to get a haircut and the owner had hired another barber since the last time I went. I sat down in the chair with the new lady and the owner tells her that I speak Japanese (3 years of high school doesn’t really count lol). The new lady all of a sudden starts speaking to me in Japanese and we tried to get a little conversation going, although I failed miserably and she politely went back to English. Topics ranged anywhere from school in Japan to finding good Japanese food in the area.
September 14th, 2008 at 3:02 amJeez, what a strange Saturday morning, but definitely one of my most interesting haircuts to date :D.
“..way too much ebb”
I was very hesitant and disinclined to use the term Surge

September 14th, 2008 at 7:28 amGood to hear from your ienkenshi.
Saw some pictures of Houston that made it look like they were hit pretty bad.
September 14th, 2008 at 11:26 amWhile I’m generally disinclined to sympathize with people who refuse to use common sense, this Hurricane Ike paragraph from the AP certainly made me want to offer the guy a beer…
Ronnie Sharp, 65, and his terrier-mix Princess, had to be rescued from his trailer in Orange County when water reached his knees. “I was getting too many snakes in the house, otherwise I would have stayed,” Sharp said. He said he lost everything in the flood but his medicine and some cigarettes.
