After almost a week, it looks like the poll on whether or not to enable up and down voting got a total of 26 votes, with 17 (65%) saying yes and 9 (35%) saying no.

Since we had problems getting stories promoted when the promotion threshold was set at six votes, I still am wondering what to do.

Personally I prefer to have down voting as an option. I see your problem with the threshold set at 6, I suspect that as more growth occurs that problem will take care of itself but that is just a guess on my part.
